We had a full bus as we ventured off down Sydenham Road to The Limestone Organic Creamery! We were greeted by our own Lillian Grooms at the door of the creamery as we headed in to see and taste the delicious things that her family owned and operated business had in store for us! We enjoyed many samples of delicious cookies from Bread and Butter Bakery and cheeses from Wilton and heavenly chocolate milk made right there at the creamery! We had perfect weather, perfect hostesses and that all made for a very perfect trip!
Eduard and Kristine Klassen took time out of their busy tour schedule to come and visit us again here at the Waterford! These two have toured the world and played in famous concert halls and cathedrals worldwide. Again, they delighted our “FULL HOUSE” in the theatre on Wednesday May 11th. Thank you so much Eduard and Kristine, we look forward to your visit in another two years.
On Sunday May 8th, we had an incredible Mother’s Day celebration. We all gathered in the Saint Lawrence Lounge for a lovely afternoon tea and the Kingston Historical Costume Club brought us the most AMAZING fashion show called “Fashion Through the Ages”. Over 25 models came dressed in their period attire. Some of the club members were solely responsible for their own reproduction of the historical clothing. We had Queen Victoria, her ladies in waiting, soldiers, knights, high society ball gowns and more. Our very own Kassidy Vanduinen closed the show as she was modelling a wedding dress from 1942, belonging to one of our residents Betty Burns! There was barely a dry eye in the house as we all hummed the tune “Hear comes the Bride” as she came down the runway. Thank you to all who made this day possible, it was truly memorable for all.
Are you New to the Waterford? Look out for our Newcomers Tea! We will be hosting one on May 17th in the St. Lawrence Lounge. This is a wonderful opportunity for our new residents to get to know our Resident Council members and adhoc committee members. A great way to get plugged in!
We had a sensational 6th Annual Waterford Seniors health and Wellness Fair here at the Waterford last month. This “Spring” tradition brings together numerous community agencies and vendors. Residents had a chance to visit about twenty different booths full of great information and resource. We even had our very own “POP UP” shoe store by “Stand Your Ground” featuring “healthy” footwear! Classic care Pharmacy had a very busy booth too with pharmacist med checks, free blood pressure and blood sugar testing and lots of great give away’s, St. Johns Ambulance was also in attendance at their interactive booth where it was all about petting the visiting dogs! Thank you to all of our terrific participants and to all who came and made the day so successful.
The Motor Maids are an international woman’s motorcycle club. Last fall, the Kingston and area chapter came to the Waterford to meet our residents and take some for a ride. We had over 15 resident riders who participated in this wonderful event. One resident in particular, could not get enough of the riding. On Sat. April 23rd, the “Motor Maids” came back for a visit to present one of our residents with a “Motor Maids” leather vest. Darlene, was so delighted with this gift and has spread the word on how much fun she had on her multiple rides! Stay tuned for another visit in early fall for another fabulous session of riding with our dear friends.
