Comfort, respect and dignity are all important aspects in maintaining quality of life when living with memory impairment. Care from skilled, compassionate staff in a warm environment forms the foundation of our mission to enrich the lives of residents and their families, making Windsong and Willows much more than just memory care neighbouurhoods.
Whether one chooses Windsong, our exclusive ladies only memory care, or Willows for both men and ladies, you’ll see the difference right away:
As-needed assistance with dressing, personal care, etc., with a focus on independence
Windsong is a relaxed, homelike neighbourhood for women living with Alzheimer’s, memory loss and other types of dementia. Located on the ground level of The Waterford, this purpose built secure memory care environment provides a warm, intimate home for up to 20 female residents.
Willows is our memory care neighborhood for both men and ladies and is located on the second floor of the atrium building, with views of the 4-season indoor atrium. 12 private suites are available within this neighbourhood.
Small by design, both Windsong and Willows encourage interaction and meaningful ‘family’ relationships between staff and residents. Each neighbourhood features its own family room, activity area and family-style dining space. A beautiful country kitchen in Windsong instills pleasant feelings of home where familiar sensations of fresh baked goods and home cooked meals fill the air.
An atmosphere has been created that encourages comfort, familiarity and security. Our purpose built design features the latest technologies and safety innovations including specialized lighting for cueing and wayfinding, state-of-the-art security, emergency call and wander alert system.*
365 days a year, residents can enjoy our indoor atrium and sensory garden with walking paths located off of the activity area. An accessible raised garden for green thumbs, tropical flowers and live plants with a soothing water fountain along with nature sounds will ensure relaxation and hours of enjoyment.
Our certified caregivers get to know each resident based on their life story. This allows the caregiver to best respond to their wants, needs, routines and preferences. We strive to support our residents to be purposeful and successful each day incorporating Person-Directed Care.
One main caregiver is assigned consistently to the resident creating a special bond with both the resident and the family. Regular communication between a family member and the caregiver allows loved ones to stay informed and involved in the resident’s care and day-to-day life.
Memory Care at The Waterford offers a full calendar of activities seven days a week recognizing that new interests can still be developed, enjoyed and appreciated. Life enriching activities designed to stimulate and engage residents in living life along with exercise programs, music, art and pet therapy are provided. In addition to scheduled activities residents are encouraged to participate in familiar household tasks such as setting the table, folding napkins and gardening.
Residents are also encouraged to make as many choices as possible throughout the day giving them a greater sense of independence, self-esteem and accomplishment.
